hello my bellos!! :D

To start off, give yourself a hug from me if you still visit this godforsaken deadwaste on the WWW! I have been a very bad examplar by making promises that I didn't keep! (What with promising to update every friday and all..) But here is a new post again for you to keep you from boredom blues! (Afterall, you must be very very bored to still drop by here.)

How is everyone? Is school being kind to you? I am aware that exams have started for you all ya? Please keep yourselves sane and work hard! Just a few more days and it'll be over, so hang in there! I've also heard about the new system where you all might get reshuffled to different classes based on your grades, and am very sorry to hear that this shitty piece of news have been delivered to you in the midst of your exam preperations, because anyone with so much as half a brain would know what devastating distractions news like this would bring! But since things have been settled, it's best to just accept, and adapt. Let the aim of staying together as a class (or to be together with certain people in the class, heheh) be incentive for you to work hard!! Peer support is also crucial in teenage years, so please be one another's pillar of support and tide each other through this period! Getting through the exam period is like steering a very old and humongous ship through a fog - it feels like it will never end and you never quite know where you are going, but as long as you don't give up and stop steering, you'll do fine, trust me! And before you know it, you can playplayplay!! :D

Sec 1 is more or less your honeymoon year (you'll know what I mean when you get to Sec 4), so enjoy it will you can! Actually, looking back on my sec1 year, I have been a very dumb kid (socially, not literally, but then again, I was no whiz kid too) and let a lot of petty arguments sour potential bestfriendsforever friendships. Things turned out fine in the end (they almost always do), but it still feels different somehow. I'm telling you all this not to warn you all against committing the same mistakes as I did (trust me, somehow or another, you'll find your own mistakes to make), but to let you all know that this is a phase that you, and everyone else will have to go through, and it is entirely normal to feel like shit, all alone in the world, with no one to love and be loved by. It's true, hormones do do things to you (ask your science teacher for the more technical aspects), and make you behave in ways that you never thought yourself capable of, but just remember to live with a open heart (and mind), and try not to harbour petty grudges, and the world would be a better and brighter place to live in! :D If ever you do feel completely miserable and you have no one to turn to, you all got my email address k, or you can get my number from people who have and can call me up! I know how difficult it is sometimes to find someone to listen to you, and sometimes you just want to talk to someone who is not involved in the mess and will listen to you with an unbiased mind. Auntie Annie is here for you 24/7 (: (no, my name is not Annie, it's just a figure of speech)

On another note altogether, you may also contact me should you need help in your work! I will try my best to help you out, but my knowledge about the sec1 curriculum is limited to math and some science. I can teach you basic lit and how to analyse unseen texts, but I can't help you with the text that you all have to study because you should know it better than I do! I realise that I have digressed a lot and so I shall stop my rant. Live like free spirits little ones! Remember that you are beautiful and live with love! (:

XOXO

HELLO AGAIN!

Hello everyone!! It's time for me to keep up with the present again (: Today is my last official day of work at school! Had a lot of fun today, and I will really miss you all tonnes (:

While I was talking to various students from different classes today, I was quite shocked to find out that many people actually think I don't like their classes / am angry with their classes! Before I continue any further, I'd really like you all to know (especially those classes that I seem to be forever yelling at) that I really really like all of you and have enjoyed my stint at A/HS a great deal! I'm the sort of person who doesn't believe in doing things that I don't enjoy, and if I had been unhappy teaching, you probably would already have had a change of art teachers long ago. I'm always yelling at you all not because I'm angry at you guys, but because if I don't raise my voice I might as well be talking to mosquitoes cause no one else would be able to hear me! So yea, it's really nothing personal. You've all been wonderful students in your own ways, be it being rowdy or enthu or quiet and unassuming, you have brought me many happy days! :D In fact, out of all my three jobs that I've had since after my A'levels, this was the longest lasting one, and the one that brought me most pleasure (: For my previous two jobs, I literally had to drag myself to work everyday! (Kids, if you think school's tough, wait till you join the work force) But as the nature of teaching promises fresh perspectives and different situations, never had I felt the compulsion to pon work, not even once! (I'm only telling you things like ponning school/work because I am no longer your teacher and hence no longer a potential role model so PLEASE don't be like me! Go to school everyday like the good dilligent pupils that you are!) So yes, from that fact alone, you all can probably tell how much I love you kids! :D While I do get truly exasperated with some of you at times, it's in the way a sister gets exasperated with a cuckoo younger sibling, or an owner with a disobedient pet (this is just a metaphor! I'm not comparing you guys with animals!). Not quite sure how to verbalise what that last sentence means exactly but you should be able to get the gist ya?

Oftentimes, being a young teacher puts you between a rock and a hard place. Because I've only just freshly graduated, I know how it feels to be sick of school and all the boring normality that it spells. If given the choice I'd more than gladly teach you all on how to appreciate the finer points of card playing (read: asshole daidee and bridge) or bring you all out on excursions all the time for scavanger hunts or looking for pictures in the clouds or watch lovely movies like LOVE ACTUALLY (!!! Speaking of which, I was rather disappointed that most of you didn't seem to like it ): I think it's because of the lack of subtitles right? They do talk pretty fast.. I can only catch the dialogue because I've watched it N times! :D Please don't deem it a boring movie and shun it forever! It's a MUST WATCH), Amelie, Butterfly Effect, The Jacket, Les Choristles, etc etc etc all day long, but I cannot! Because a) I do have a syllabus given to me to follow, and b) if I did all that, I'd be given the boot in a week, tops. I've actually replaced activities like still life drawing (drawing bananas and chilli peppers and bottles for three whole lessons) for art history crosswords and stuffed monster making because I'd wanted to inject more variety to the lessons! So yeahh, I hope you all had at least a teeny tiny little bit of fun doing art (:

I will still be updating the blog, so please do check back often! I'll try to stick to a new post every friday ya? (If you wish to know what I'm doing, etc, you may go to my real blog at HERE (: ) In the meantime, please be good boys and girls and listen to your teachers and have great fun growing up! Teenage hormones can make life fluctuate at a faster frequency than the 1997 stock market, but teenhood is, invariably, the best part of one's life. Have Great Good Fun, do Great Good Things, and become Great Good Responsible people that you can be proud of okay? I'll really miss ALL of you so much! When it boils down to the very bare bones of it, I'm here because I need a job and I don't want to waste my life sitting around like a lump of flesh at home, but no amount of money in the world can be exchanged for the amazing 15 weeks I've spent here, and please remember that despite all the scolding and yelling and silent treatments, I love you all very much and will miss you all like a ten million piles of bricks! :D :D

(By the way, people/classes who've given me stuff, I am VERY touched and really really appreciate everything. Thank you all so much!! :D)

P.S. People who want to be educated on the finer points of asshole daidee and bridge, feel free to call me up for remedial lessons! :D

P.P.S. Speaking of remedial, I'm giving tuition! Primary: english/math/sci, lower sec: engligh/math/sci, single or group, fees depends on level, hour, subjects and number of people. So if you have any lobang for tuition jobs, CONTACT MEEEE :D

hellohello!

Haha well yes, I've decided to stop living in May 23rd and move on!

Am going to post pictures of my preparatory work (i.e. draft) of my art project in JC, which was about t-shirt design. You all can take a look and hopefully, draw inspiration (: The pictures aren't big enough for you to see the explanation, so feel free to ask any questions you have.

Alright that's it! See you in class (:

HELLO!!!

Ohmy, does anyone still come here at all? I haven't been here in such a long time that I'd almost forgotten the password!

This is going to be a little belated, but congratulations about the end of the examinations! I know some of you are probably upset about your results, but don't worry okay? Secondary school and primary school is very different, what with almost double the number of subjects to juggle and half the amount of time to do so (the other half being taken up by CCAs and other whatnot). Give yourself time to adjust to the new system! Work hard and do your homework consistently and trust me, you will see a marked improvement in grades for your next exam!

Okay studying aside, you guys must also learn to have fun ya? Because Sec 1 is the unofficial honeymoon year of secondary school (you will understand what I mean in the years to come) so this is the time to bond with your class/cca-mates and party! Instead of mopping about your results (which you can't change), go out with your friends, catch a movie, go for dessert, go shopping (GSS is coming soon!)...etc. Then after unwinding properly, start to get your gear in motion and revise your work! It's a very important survival skill (learning to balance between play and work) so perfect the art before you are promoted to sec2 and have to deal with the stress of streaming and whatnot!

Okay for those of you who are celebrating your new (however shortterm) freedom by crusing the WWW, here are some interesting sites for you guys to visit! (:

Art related:

World Cup 2006 is coming to town! Check out http://www.footballheroes.org/ to oogle at various artists' renditions of your favourite soccer teams! :D
  • http://www.illustrationfriday.com : This site has a new art theme every friday as inspiration for people who want to make art. Very nifty for those of you who use "I don't know what to draw leh" as an excuse for not doing your art jourals!
  • http://www.fabrica.it/flipbook/ : Has anyone ever played with flipbooks? Once in primary schoool (five, I think), I got so bored doing my zhao4 ju4 that I entertained myself by drawing a mini flipbook-esque stickfigure skipping in the corner of the exercise book. I forgot about it and handed my work in, and when my teacher found out, she wasn't really amused and made me erase every single page. At this website, you can create your own virtual flipbooks -- all you need is your handydandy mouse! (:
  • http://www.neu-e.de/index : This site is pretty cool; people from all over the world design characters on boxes and send them in, and the website people will post the creations online! If you think posting overseas is too cumbersome, you may make use of their latest feature: the box doodle tool, which will allow you to draw online (:
  • http://www.mojizu.com/ : A character design community where people submit their character design creations. Man, I wish I'd found out about this website when I gave you guys the character design assignment!

Games:

  • http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/ : A collection of very kawaii-ne albeit pointless games. Try the fifthrow-secondgame, I like that a lot! :D
  • http://www.isketch.net/ : This is what kept me sane during the A'level period. My friends and I would meet up online at wee hours in the morning and create our own private room and play for hours when we were supposed to be studying. Those were good times (: (Please people, DON'T follow my very lousy example -- study when you are supposed to! It will save you from much grief and agony.)
  • http://www.shockwave.com : This place has some pretty cool games; you'll need to download shockwave and register with the website though, so there's a bit of red tape to get past before you can enjoy the games. (P.S. Don't bother playing inklink, people cheat like crazy donkeys there - if you like games of the pictionary variety, isketch is the way to go.)

Random cool website:

That's it! A very long update to make up for my lack of updates (: BeforeI end off, here's a very kind reminder for all you people to stay healthy and eat at least two servings of fruits and vegetables each a day (for those who, like me, loathe vegetables, eat four servings of fruits to keep up your fibre intake and prevent constipation!), and please hand in whatever work (stuffed monster/pointillism/journal) that you owe me. Have a great day!

what is template?

Template just means to draw out the character/object that you want to turn into a stuffed toy on drawing block, in the size you want it.

Try to keep the design simple, so you don't have to do a lot of details which can be fiddly!

WEEK 4 LESSON PPT

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Some people are using store-bought cloth (new cloth), which is not what this assignment is about. The topic is "Recycled Monsters", and unlike the 'monsters' part which is flexible and your creation need not be a monster, the materials used should be recycled. You will be judged on how creative you are regarding usage of materials. If you have bought new cloth and have already started, don't worry, you can go ahead and complete your work, but try to use recycled materials (old buttons, etc) as embellishments.

Hey people, here is the lesson plan for this week is here:
http://novo.elfet.com/recycled%20monsters_files/frame.htm
Please allow time for the pictures to load! Post any questions that your brilliant minds may be troubled over!

Update: If you can't view the website, email me and I'll send you the jpeg files!!

Summary: A two-week craft project. Basically, you design something that you want to make into a toy, draw the template and trace it onto cloth from old shirts/curtains/etc, cut out, sew, stuff and decorate.

Rules: No vulgarities, no middle fingers, no private parts. People who have queries on what is considered a vulgarity or are unsure about what private parts are, please let me know and I will arrange a tutorial session for you regarding these topics with Mr Chua.

What to do: (for this week) Design and prepare a monster template on drawing block and bring it for your next lesson. You will be cutting this template out and tracing it onto your fabric, so make sure you draw it in the desired size of the stuffed toy. Then, decide on the materials you want to use and bring it for the next lesson. If you really really want to use a certain material/item, but cannot get hold of it, let me know and I'll try to look for it for you. People who do not bring the relevant materials for the next lesson will have to use my materials which you will have to pay for.

What to bring for next lesson:
- template
- needle and thread
- cloth
- stuffing of choice
- other embellishments (decoration)

Please note: Rice is included as a suggestion for stuffing. Please only use this as a last resort because according to Chinese culture and tradition, cannot waste food. (Yes, I am aware that green/red beans are also food, but they are not considered staples) You may use items like saga seeds, etc to stuff your toy, but if you really want to do so, you'll need _A Lot_ of them. So cotton wool is actually the best choice, because you can buy it in huge quantities for a very low price.

FAQ (please read!)

Q: Can don't draw monster?
A: Yes. If you are not comfortable with designing a monster, you may do any other thing of your choice -- doll, papaya, apple, gun, knife, cartoon character, etc etc. But keep in mind that the more creative you are, the higher marks you get. (Also, this mark will be counted towards the overall SA mark)

Q: What size?
A: Any size, preferably half-drawingblock size. Remember, the smaller the drawing, the harder it will be for you to sew and add details.

Q: What do we have to do this week?
A: Prepare your monster template on drawing block, decide on your materials, and bring everything for the next lesson.

Q: Can we keep the toy?
A: Yes, of course! I have no space to keep 400 stuffed monsters anyway.

Q: Can I not do this assignment? I can't sew!
A: (to the first question) No. (to the second question) That is why I want you to bring all the materials next lesson so we can do the sewing together.

Please post any further queries on the tagboard/leave a comment/make a blogpost.
